Finnøy Gear & Propeller is a family owned company that for more than 135 years has evolved from being a local production workshop to today's company that operates worldwide.
The company is a leading developer and manufacturer of turnkey propulsion systems for modern shipping. Our product portfolio consists of gears, propellers, nozzles and remote controls that are characterized by high quality throughout the value chain.
Finnøy Gear & Propeller is located in modern production premises on idyllic Finnøy, close by Ålesund in Norway. The Finnøy team consist of 55 employees at our head office in Finnøy and sales office in Ålesund. In addition, we are represented through an agent network in North America, Europe, Asia, Oceania and South- Africa. Our vision is to create tailored solutions for advanced ships, with a continiuos focus on meeting and exceeding customer expectations both in precision and efficiency.
Evolution
Ever since our early days in 1884 we have been specializing in the development of propulsion systems for oceangoing vessels across ship types.
Statement of due diligence assessment 2025
The purpose of this report is to describe and communicate how we carry out our work on human rights and decent working conditions in accordance with the Transparency Act. For us, responsibility and human rights are a fundamental area of focus.
Finnøy Gear & Propeller AS manufactures gearboxes and propellers for vessel propulsion. The company is located on Finnøya in Ålesund municipality. The company has established ethical guidelines with procedures for whistleblowing through our employee handbook.
All our employees, as well as employees of our suppliers, must have decent working conditions in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the laws applicable at the place of production.
To reduce risk and uncover any unfavorable conditions, we have the following routines:
Continuous assessment of the risk of human rights violations.
Conduct investigations where there is suspicion of human rights violations.
Evaluate the results of any investigations.
All our suppliers are from Norway or Europe. We have regular meetings with our largest suppliers or visit the supplier’s location. Most of our suppliers are companies we have done business with for 30–40 years, so we are very familiar with their activities.
In the due diligence assessments carried out, we have not identified any significant risk of negative consequences. We will continue our work on due diligence and risk mapping.
